Wrist flicking in the kitchen- Lasanga

Hey guyz,
Lets take it to Italia today... I made this recipe a while back and put the pictures up on my Instagram (@thegirljustlovestocook), a dear friend of mine has been asking for the recipe, thankfully I had some pictures taken. I've been on a healthy, clean eating life style upgrade... lol, so I'm definitely not making this version anytime soon. Let me add that this recipe involves quite a bunch of steps and almost 3 hours of prep and cooking time, but trust me its definitely a labor of love!

Typically, a good lasagna needs a super meaty meat sauce and a Ricotta cheese sauce with a blend of other good cheeses.
Kemi this one is for you dear;

You'll need:
Lasagna pasta noodles (the box should say lasagna)
For the meat sauce:
Ground beef
Ground pork
Pasta sauce (marinara sauce)
Oil
Garlic
Mushroom
Onion
Red pepper flakes
Black pepper
Dried Italian herb seasoning
Water
For the cheese sauce:
Ricotta Cheese
Mozzarella Cheese diced
Parmesan Cheese shredded
Eggs 2
Fresh parsley

Meat sauce:
Browning the meat
Step 1- In a clean dry pot add your ground meats and cook until they are browned and crumbly( make sure to break up the meat as it cooks, they tend to stick together and you do not want meat balls), the meat should release its own oil and juices, add diced mushroom and onion, when the mushroom is browned and onion is softened add diced garlic and cook until all the juices released are almost dried
Step 2- Add pasta sauce to the browned meats, add red pepper flakes or chili powder, black pepper, Italian herd seasoning or dried basil and dried oregano add salt to taste. Please this sauce needs no stock cube except you so desire.
Step 3- Cook this sauce on low heat for about 1 hr or until the meat is super tender and sauce has thickened, give this sauce a stir every once in a while as it cooks with a wooden spoon to avoid burning. You can also add a little water as it cooks if the consistency is too thick.
Step 4- Once satisfied with the consistency and seasoning, take off the heat and set aside.
Meat Sauce

Preheat the oven to 190 deg C or 375 deg F

Cheese sauce:
Step 1- In a bowl add the 2 eggs and beat, add all 3 cheeses, black pepper, chopped fresh parsley, chili powder and salt. Reserve some of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
Cheese sauce

Cook Pasta noodles in a boiling pot of salted water for 7-8 mins or follow the package instructions, make sure not to over cook as the pasta could tear apart a you assemble the lasagna. Stir every once in a while so they do not stick together, it should be firm to the bit, drain and rinse the noodles and set aside.

To assemble:
In a 9x16 or 10x15 or any sized baking dish or pan you desire start to assemble the lasagna in this order meat sauce, noodles, cheese sauce, meat sauce, noodles, cheese sauce... keep assembling in this order until the final layer ending with meat sauce. Now as the reserve mozzarella and Parmesan cheese a the over last layer and sprinkle over some chopped parsley. Depending on the size of your baking dish, you may have 3-4 layers.
Cover the dish with foil and cook in pre-heated oven for about 30 mins, remove the foil and cook uncovered for another 30 mins or until the cheese is golden brown and bubbly.

Set aside to rest for 20 mins before you slice into squares and enjoy!
Peace!
